Scaling & Root Planing

Patient receiving scaling and root planing treatment

Scaling and root planing is a two-step gum disease treatment, also known as a deep cleaning. During the first portion, Dr. Sharolli will clear all plaque and tartar from the surface of your teeth, as far down as the pockets of your gums. This will help minimize the presence of harmful oral bacteria in your mouth. Next, we’ll smooth the roots of your teeth and clear off any deposits of bacteria and tartar. This will allow the treated gums to reattach to the roots of your teeth.

Antibiotic Therapy

We may also recommend antibiotic therapy in combination with scaling and root planing to help minimize your symptoms and ensure that your mouth doesn’t become overrun with harmful oral bacteria again. Typically, we administer the antibiotic in the form of a pill or medicated mouthwash that will target the gums and restore their health.
